McCalls 7948 Sundress

McCalls 7948 Sundress

This dress was a departure from my usual style of sewing, in many ways. It features a bold, colourful print, gathered tiers, a cotton blend fabric and not even short sleeves with which to combat the office air conditioning. Let’s face it, “the office” (as opposed to my working from home setup) feels a million miles away at the moment.

Reusable cotton pads

Reusable cotton pads

The end of one year and the start of the next is always a time for reflection and contemplation. Like many people’s, my main resolution for 2020 is to make changes to my lifestyle in order to be more thoughtful about my (and my family’s) diet, health, and impact on the environment.

I had seen a handful of examples on Pinterest and I really liked the look of them, so I set out to find a pattern to base it on… and as soon as I saw Vogue 1467, I thought, “that’s the one!”. It’s actually a peacoat pattern, intended for coatings, but structurally it had what I was looking for – short length, double breasted, and even had an interesting feature at the centre back neckline.

Spring skirt

Spring skirt

Well! Boy, I have been remiss! Has it been THAT long since I posted?! Eek.

It has been a whirlwind few months and I’ve missed posting my makes here! If you’re with me on Instagram though, hopefully you’ll have seen some of what I’ve been up to. I have been practising the art of self-drafting. It’s kind of addictive 🙂

One of my favourite recent makes is this pastel pink pencil skirt – not at all a colour I would usually wear – especially as a skirt – but something about the fabric caught my eye and made me try it. And, of course, I love it. Love it!
