Agnes Skirt

The pencil skirt pattern of my dreams…

The Agnes skirt is a truly professional pencil skirt sewing pattern. Fully lined? Check. Back vent? Check. Pretty insides? Of course. It’s a work wardrobe staple you’ll come back to over and over again.

  • Fully lined, with a back vent, zip shield and a bias bound inner waistband.
  • View A features diagonal side pockets.
  • View B is a streamlined version without pockets.

The step by step instructions include plenty of photos, and there are video snippets of the main construction steps on this site if you prefer even more visual instructions!

This is an intermediate sewing pattern. But if you’re a confident beginner, check out the video snippets (and the original sew along) which may help you with your Agnes – some of my lovely testers were confident beginners!

Fabric & notions

I’d recommend medium/skirt weight wool, tweed, crepe, linen, cotton and stretch blends of the same.

You’ll need:

  • Bias binding for the inside waistband (the length of the finished garment waist for your size, from the Garment Waist measurement in the table, plus 4”/10cm)
  • Skirt bar and hook for the waistband
  • 8” concealed zip

My pattern testers said…

“I love the fit! … Overall, it’s a great piece to sew. It was very satisfying and I already have plans for another one.”

“I want to let you know that the fit is PERFECT! I didn’t need to make a single modification. It’s giving me a great hourglass figure and it looks so luxe in the cream wool double cloth I chose.”

“I love this pattern. It is so intuitively made, easy to adjust if you’re in between sizes, transferring it to the fabric was easy, the instructions were clear, easy for a confident beginner as well!”

“Overall I found it a really good, and reasonably quick sew for something so smart! Was really nice to sew and the instructions were clear…”

“The instructions alone are a cut above the rest. You also teach your customers how to finish the skirt in such a way, that they end up with a very professional looking garment.”

“As someone who has been sewing for a while, you taught me some new sewing techniques (waistband with bias binding, zip shield) that I haven’t seen before!”

“This is the best fitting pencil skirt in my life!”

“Can’t wait to make more.”
