McCalls 7601

McCalls 7601

It has been quite some time since I did an actual blog post, and it feels like so much has happened since my last one! Life gets in the way.. But in amongst all the mayhem, I have, of course, still been getting my sewing fix here and there.

One recent make, which I was pleasantly surprised by, is McCalls 7601.

This is a versatile pattern playing up to the cold-shoulder trend, with various combinations of ruffles, sashes and peplums.

I made view A, which comes together very quickly as there aren’t too many pattern pieces to work with (front, back, sash, front facing and back facing). I had to shorten the tie/sash because of the amount of fabric I had, but I’m still a fan. I made it in a floral viscose from my stash (annoyingly I can’t remember where I got it from!) and cut the pattern size closest to my bust measurement.

I soon realised that the notch for the neckline opening was WAY too low for me – it was literally split to below my bust. Not a good look, but easy to fix – I sewed the centre front seam closed to a more reasonable level, and have made a note on the pattern piece for next time.

I think the final blouse is true to the picture on the pattern envelope. Personally, I think I’m more likely to wear the blouse tucked in than not. Loose, it seems.. well, a little *too* loose. Shapeless, even.

See what I mean? It just doesn’t work for me. But cinched in (as simulated with a random belt here), I love it.

I will definitely make this again, and next time I think I’d like to lengthen the pattern to a dress.. watch this space!

Until next time..
Michelle
