Sew Over It Coco Jacket No. 2

Sew Over It Coco Jacket No. 2

For the first time ever, I made the same pattern twice, literally back to back.

I was so happy with my first Sew Over It Coco Jacket that I went straight on to make another one from a black Linton Tweed wool that I’d been holding onto for exactly this purpose.

I reviewed the pattern itself in my post on my first SOI Coco. For this jacket, I made two alterations:

  • I added 1 1/2″ to the sleeve length. There aren’t any lengthen/shorten lines on the pattern pieces, so I just chose a spot above the elbow to cut and insert 1/2″, and a spot below the elbow to cut and insert 1″.
  • I extended the centre front by 1″ – at the time, I wanted to make it a button-up jacket and intended for this to provide the overlap for the buttons and buttonholes.

I followed the same construction process as last time, and the jacket came together really quickly.

Then it was time to think about trim!:

I had the jacket up on the dress form for a couple of days, pinning trim and buttons in various configurations, and eventually decided on one. I realised I’d actually rather wear it open than buttoned up, with this trim, so instead I went for non-functional buttons on each side.

And here’s the finished jacket!:

I’m really happy with it, and pleased that even without the couture quilted lining etc, you can still make a smart looking cardigan jacket. It’s really comfortable to wear, too.

I can certainly see myself making more of these, as it’s such a versatile pattern that, with varied fabric and trim choices, it wouldn’t look like you were always wearing the same jacket. The only problem I have is that I need to make some scoop neck camis that work well with the neckline, so I can wear it to work! I’ll probably start with the Sew Over It Silk Cami.

I look forward to seeing more versions on sewcial media as people make up this pattern!
