An Ogden Cami

An Ogden Cami

I feel like I have been searching for a long time for a great cami pattern. Recently I decided to try one that seems, from ‘sewcial media’ – sorry 🙂 – to be both extremely popular and very flattering. Here’s my version of the Ogden Cami by True Bias:

Pattern Review

PatternThe Ogden Cami

Fabric: A soft yellow linen I picked up last time I was on Goldhawk Road.

Sizing/Alterations: I sewed up my true size, but I think I should actually go up one size for the next one, and I think I need to lengthen the shoulder straps somewhat, too. The Cami fits nicely most of the time, like this..:

…. but it does also have a tendency to ride up and gape at the neckline like this…:

… and I think it could do with a bit more room in the bust (a novel problem for me!), but I’m not sure whether I need to go up a size for that, or just experiment with the length of the straps. My v-neck doesn’t seem to be as deep as some of the pictures I’ve seen, so perhaps I should try longer straps first.

In the meantime, I’ll keep pulling it down, like I did just after that photo, and it’ll look fine 🙂

Instructions: The instructions were clear, and it’s a pretty simple sew.

Difficulty: The only hard bit is the straps! I still haven’t found a technique that works for me, to turn out thin bias tubes of fabric for straps like these. The instructions just say to turn them out, and I’ve tried a loop turner, a safety pin, and sewing over a loop of thread. Let’s just say I’m not very good at turning. However, I don’t let that bother me – I just make bias binding instead, edgestitch down the outer edge, and Bob’s your uncle – straps!

Would I recommend it, or sew it again?: I’m torn. I think I would recommend it, but I’m not sure I would sew it again. Not because of the pattern, which I do think is nice, but because this is the third cami pattern I’ve tried, and I’m curious to see whether self-drafting would yield better fit for me. If not, then yes I will make myself another Ogden at some point!
